Role Summary:
Reporting to the Head of Application Engineering and Regional General Manger, this key role is to provide engineering management and leadership to the engineering team based in Shanghai, China. The team consists of marine, electrical, control & instrumentation (EC&I) and structural engineering disciplines.
The Application Engineering function covers a broad range of activities; Primarily it is focused on engineering Silverstream Technologies’ product range to many vessel types, both Newbuild and Retrofit. As well as assisting other business functions such as Commercial & Supply Chain and supporting the in-service fleet where there are escalated technical queries.
Governance and lead for all engineering work flows from the Head of Application Engineering, hence the role of the Regional Head of Application Engineering is to ensure such governance is correctly captured and applied within the regional application engineering teams, creating and applying appropriate processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide line management and leadership to the China based engineering team
- Provide technical oversight, quality assurance, governance and guidance to the China based engineering team in all matters of their work
- Act as an escalation route for all matters from the China based engineering team to either the Regional General Manager or Head of Application Engineering in accordance with the UK China Business Operating Model
- Oversee, coordinate and provide subject matter technical support and advice to internal and external stakeholders. E.g. Sales, Supply chain and project teams.
Person Specification
Essential qualifications, skills and experience:
- Degree in related engineering subject OR equivalent extensive experience within a highly regulated industry
- A minimum of 10 years working in industry preferably with the majority in a related maritime field
- A background in one or more of the following:
- Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineering and systems integration onboard vessels or similar industrial applications
- Vessel structural engineering, integration and/ or vessel fabrications
- Marine Engineering, vessel systems design and integration
- Demonstratable experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Experience working in or closely with Shipyards in relation to Newbuild and Retrofit vessels
- Knowledge of marine classification society rules (DNV, ABS, LR, etc.) and other regulatory requirements within the maritime industry
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Good report writing and presentation skills
- Good personal organisational skills
- Ability to multi-task on a variety of projects to strict time scales
- Understands business objectives and can influence stakeholders to meet objectives
- Displays strong interpersonal skills and is accessible and approachable
- Excellent written, verbal communication and presentational skills (Chinese and English)
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience:
- Experience with energy efficiency technology is desirable although not essential
- Experience working for the a “maker” within the maritime or comparable industry
