Role Summary
Reporting to the Regional Head of Application Engineering, this role is to provide Application Engineering support to the Silverstream Technologies business in the context of design selection, positioning, and integration of our Air Release Units (ARU) in Retrofit and Newbuild Projects. This work will require the review, understanding and use of ship plans to ensure the ARUs are positioned to maximise vessel performance and enable suitable structural integration. The role involves close work with the other engineering disciplines in both China and the UK.
You will be involved in a wide range of other activities, including supporting the simplification of structural integration at ship, supporting the established relationships with fabricators of our structural components and assisting with shipyard queries during the ARU installation at ship.
Governance and lead for all structural works flows from the Lead Structural Engineer. The role of the Application Engineer - Structures is to ensure such governance is correctly applied within the Application Engineering discipline, complying with process, and ensuring timely resolution and escalation of challenges as they arise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take responsibility for health and safety in all aspects of your role.
- Provide subject matter knowledge relating to your discipline, for both Retrofit and Newbuild projects
- Provide a point of connection to our engineering teams in the UK in relation to your discipline
- Apply discipline expertise on Projects in support of Project Engineers (PE)
- Develop and present technical arguments effectively and influence others accordingly
- Balance conflicting priorities and manage workload effectively
- Attendance at supplier, partner and customer sites for meetings, inspection etc.
- Attendance at shipyards including of installation activities
Skills, Qualifications, Experience & Characteristics:
- Higher Degree in Naval Architecture, structural engineering or a related subject.
- A minimum of 3 years working in the relevant discipline in the marine industry
- A clear and demonstratable understanding of relevant Classification Society rules
- A clear and demonstratable understanding of relevant manufacturing processes such that cost analysis and reduction is always a core consideration
- Fully conversant with AutoCAD and/or relevant software packages
- Excellent written, verbal communication and presentational skills (Chinese and English)
- Good analytical skills
- Good personal organisational skills, with the ability to multi-task on a variety of projects to strict time scales
- Displays strong interpersonal skills and is accessible and approachable

- Travel – some domestic travel for meetings and sitework support may be required, and potential international travel may also be required.
